Women’s 3s 1 – 0 Surbiton Juguars
The ladies 3s were back at Oaken Lane after suffering defeat last week at Cheam and were ready to get back to winning ways.
Playing surbiton is always a tough day at the office as we know they can be young and fast with some “wise” players scattered throughout.
The game started end to end but OCs were first to open their scoring account. The ball through open play made its way in to the D. OCs were calm and made multiple passes around the D with the ball coming to Jo at the top of the D who took a crack at the ball which deflected off the defenders stick into the top corner.
1-0.
After this, OCs took more control of the game with the second half of the first half seeing them pile on more pressure in the D and securing some short corner attempts, although unsuccessful.
First half finished 1-0.
Despite surbiton looking dangerous on a break, our back line were solid and relentless meaning they were rarely were a threat.
A second attempt at a goal came from linking play down the left finding Miggs who made a pass finding Jo (again) at the top of the D who took a mighty strike but this time the deflection took it off the back line.
In the words of captain Ailsa, the work rate was epic and the ladies fought to the end, securing the 3 points.
Mentions for MOM to Ailsa, Grace and mention to Hannah for keeping a clean sheet but MOM to Jo
Having taken note of this we started with vigour and within 9 mins Hannah had made a great run up the right, crossed the ball for Bernie to do what Bernie does and pop it in the goal.
2nd goal also Bernie, similar to above.
3rd goal A run by Freya and popped in by Hannah
4th goal again Hannah
5th goal Jess
6th goal Paula strike from a PC
7th goal Chloe assisted by Bernie.
A good spread of players getting on the score sheet but hat trick avoidance I feel.
Imperial college where a very nice side to play and did have a several runs into our D which did result in one goal by their most skilful player. This was early in the game and once she had scored we then had the measure of her.
Apologies for not elaborating more about our goals but being the other end of the pitch it does all rather blur, but I do cheer a lot.
Top of the table and looking forward to the next game x
Player of the match went to Sarah McKay.

Women’s 6s 6 – 1 Epsom Palominos
Not quite the rap of last week – but the match report for the Ladies’ 6s.
It was quite a day of highs and lows for us. We were looking forward to putting some of the things we’d been working on in training and not sure what to think of our opposition (who were just below us in the league table). We started tentatively and then in the first 10 minutes Carolina got a ball to the face at quite a high pace. A short stoppage (and change of umpire) as Gus needed to take Carlina for a fun afternoon in A & E. A bit shaken from losing Carolina it took us a while to get into our groove – but when we did the goals started to flow.
We finally broke the deadlock with a great team effort goal finished by George, assisted by Claire and Darcey. A second quickly followed from a post tap in by Jenny (from Darcy’s excellent strike). We were pushing hard, and Epsom kept threatening on the break. Michelle often the only thing between them and a goal. Michelle heroically stopped several break aways but they finally got one back. WE continued to push with 2 more goals (Cuddy assisted by Claire) and Jenny (assisted by Cuddy). We went into the break feeling confident in our 4-1 lead but knew we couldn’t rest on our laurels.
The second half we dominated possession and scored twice with 2 similar goals, – Darcy making a driving run to the right hand bass line and popping the ball across the goal to Cuddy. It really was a whole team effort and everybody was thinking of poor Carolina (and Gus). Several hours and 8 stickers (stitches) later, Caroline was patched up – sending lots of love to our Argentinian Warrior.
Women’s 4s 2 – 1 Teddington 5s
The Old Cranleighans Women’s 4s secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against a determined Teddington side in an away fixture. The match began with Old Cranleighans asserting dominance, controlling possession and creating numerous opportunities. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to capitalize on their chances in the first half. Right before the break, Teddington took the lead with a well-executed field goal. After this Connie suffered with injury after bravely making a goal saving tackle.
After the break, the Old Cranleighans returned to the pitch with renewed determination. Josie stepped up to take a penalty stroke, awarded after the opposition was penalized for illegally picking up the ball. The ball was slotted into the net, leveling the score at 1-1.
Spurred on by the equalizer, the Old Cranleighans built momentum, orchestrating a fantastic attacking move down the right wing. This play earned them a short corner, and Manny delivered a clinical straight strike into the bottom left corner, putting us ahead 2-1. With the lead secured, Old Cranleighans demonstrated excellent game management. They maintained possession, created further chances, and defended resolutely against a determined Teddington side that pushed hard for an equalizer. The defensive line held firm, ensuring the match ended in a well-deserved 2-1 victory. Player of the match went to Josie for her penalty stroke.
