While our season is on pause, each Saturday we’ll introduce you to one of our Club players. To kick things off, meet our own OCHC NHS hero and Men’s XI player, Matt Richardson.
Name: Matt Richardson or ‘Rico’
Team / Position: Men’s XI / Inside forward or half back
One adjective to best describe you on the pitch: Busy!
As a critical care physiotherapist during COVID-19, what’s your trick to staying positive and motivated?
Working on critical care can be very difficult in many ways, especially in the current climate. It’s important to gain a good relationship with patients and their families so you’re invested in their goals. It’s equally as important to remain aware of your own health and that of your team members so you can remain positive and motivated towards helping the people that need it most. Outside of work I stay positive through any form of exercise and seeing my team mates as much as the current guidelines allow. They’re lifesavers!
What can OC’s do to help?
OC’s already do loads to help by making hockey as safe as possible for everyone to play with all the restrictions and supporting the NHS. It was great to be accepted so quickly into the OC’s family and to be part of a community that’s so sociable and inclusive is fantastic. Couldn’t ask anymore from the club other than for us to just check in and support our NHS staff where possible!
When we get back to the Club, is it all about JJ’s fajitas or burgers?
JJ’s fajitas all the way. With a jug of eurofizz to keep Dobs happy!
