Half time couldn’t come soon enough, muscles were aching and sugar was needed. With a quick motivating talk people were feeling rejuvenated and ready to go. Straight out, the OE’s managed to secure a shot on target however they weren’t getting past Caz who with a magnificent left handed dive, managed to save a goal. Concentration and order were then reinstated but not before Goalie got a stern word from the umpire and Sophie could put her life on the line for the sake of the game. However once the chaos had assuaged, OC’s were able to demonstrate some of their textbook short corners with Nikki scoring with a straight strike bringing the score up to 2-0. OE’s had some handy round the back hockey skills, however try as they did they were unsuccessful in making a mark on the score sheet and passing our solid defence. A brilliant start to 2014 and a sign of things to come!
Match Reports – January 18 2014
Ladies Old Cranleighans 1st XI v London Edwardians 2nd XI
Full of Christmas pudding and feeling fresh, the first X1 ladies hockey team were determined to turn around a fairly unsuccessful first half of the season and start 2014 with a victory. A debut from Caz in goal, the return of Ana from across the globe and Fletch now fully recovered from injury, we were feeling confident. A cold but sunny start as the ladies huddled on the pitch staring the OE’s down. As the whistle blew the determination and grit were evident in the eyes of the OC’s. We managed to keep possession of the ball for majority of the first half and test the keeper fairly frequently. Adrenaline racing a team effort was made to move into their 25, and in a minute of confusion the OC’s managed to make the first mark on the score sheet with a goal from Ana.
